New Service

Please read our New Service Brochure (PDF Document 2.18 MB)

To initiate the planning process, please forward the following to the Engineering Department via mail or fax:
  1. Site Plan with meter base location marked if there is no well and septic for this area.
  2. Copy of the first page of the recorded deed (legal description of property including Deed Book and Page or instrument number).
  3. Plat (showing property lines).
  4. Copy of Well and Septic Permit (showing proposed building(s), driveway(s), meter location(s), well, septic, and drain field location).
  5. Completed Application for Membership.  (PDF Document 81 KB)
  6. Completed Member Request for New Service

    ...or...

    Completed Application for Three-Phase Service.

Please discuss with your electrician the location of the meter (see Meter and Ditch Requirement diagrams) before marking it on the site plan. Changing meter base location after service has been designed will require redesign of service and cause delay for connection.

After the required documentation is received, a staking technician will visit your site, and we will send you additional information regarding the routing, cost (if any) and required easements for electric service. Please refer to the Easement Form Instructions (PDF Document 216 KB) when filling out any required easements. An on-site meeting with a staking technician is beneficial if specific routing is required or there is not a pole or transformer on your property; otherwise, the planning process may be completed by mail correspondence. All associated extensions of electric distribution facilities and fees will be applied according to CVEC's Terms & Conditions For Providing Electric Distribution Service (PDF Document 281 KB).

CVEC is committed to providing prompt, economical, and reliable service to its members. If you have any questions about the planning of your electrical service,or would like to schedule a meeting with a staking technician please call and ask for:

As of January 1, 2004 CVEC members are eligible to purchase the energy of their electric service from a Competitive Service Provider (CSP), while continuing to receive distribution services from CVEC. Currently there are no registered CSP's in Virginia. If and when a CSP decides to provide competitive offers in Virginia, you will be able to compare their price for energy with CVEC's "price to compare". As a not-for-profit utility, CVEC will purchase energy for its members and pass it through at-cost.

The Customer Choice Legislation requires the Cooperative to make available a list of all its customers and their account information to all licensed CSP companies and this list is called the "Mass List". Unless you request that your account information be withheld from the Mass List, it will contain your account information, including your name, address, account number, and up to twelve months of your electricity consumption.

To have your account information withheld from the mass list, then download the "Opt-out Form" and return it to CVEC. You may also call a CVEC customer service representative at 1-800-367-2832 if you have any questions.
