Heat Pump Checklist

Just before cold weather sets in is a good time to prepare your heat pump for winter season. Preparation may mean having the heat pump checked out by a licensed professional heating contractor. At the least, taking the following steps will help you prepare for colder weather.

Leave the thermostat alone! Find a comfortable setting for your thermostat and leave it there. Increasing the thermostat setting more than 1.5 degrees will cause the supplementary heat to come on, reducing efficiency and increasing the cost.

Replace / Clean the air intake filters every month.

Allow unobstructed air flow around the outside unit. Clearing the unit of debris, leaves, and snow.

Clear any items from around the air in-take units in the home.
