Cooling System Tune-Up
Just before the summer and winter seasons are good times to give your
central air conditioning system or heat pump a checkup to assure
efficient operation. Here are a few hints to help prepare for a
comfortable summer.

|
 |
- Check your air conditioner filters every month and clean or
replace them, since getting the proper amount of air across
indoor and outdoor coils is very important. Check your outdoor
coil and compressor unit to assure it is not blocked by leaves,
grass, or other materials that could limit the air flow.
- Do not close off more than one supply register at a time, and
keep return grills free. Closing off more return grills will
restrict air flow, preventing efficient operation. Keep return
grills free so that unrestricted air can flow back to the
indoor unit.
- Check the condensation drain for clogging, since no condensation
flowed through it during the winter months. Air conditioning
and cooling also provides humidity control to assure comfort.
Humidity control removes the moisture from the air through
condensation, which is then discharged through a condensation
drain.
- If you can feel airflow near the pipe elbows or other joints,
have a contractor tighten and reseal your ducts. As your
cooling system ages, the ductwork may begin to leak at joints
and connections.
Taking the time to go over your system will help assure more economical
operation. So take a few minutes to check over the system, then sit
back and relax in the cool comfort of air conditioning.
